What winning back SFO's parking searches is worth in new parking stays

SFO still ranks #1 for nearly every "sfo parking" search, yet its parking pages draw 40,662 search clicks a month, down from 65,568 a year ago. Google's AI Overviews, the local pack and off-airport lots now answer first, and the "cheap," "near" and "promo code" searches go to off-airport lots and Reddit. Every airport we checked lost a third or more of its search traffic, so this models share of the lost clicks, not the peak back. Pick a tier, then replace our placeholder rates with SFO's own.

What waiting costs

Over the past year SFO's parking pages lost about 2,076 search clicks a month, every month, while still ranking #1. At these rates each month the trend runs takes away about 0 parking stays and $0 of parking revenue a month, and the losses add up. Each month without the plan also defers about $0 of new parking revenue. In the meantime, at least 500 sites link to SFO pages that now return a 404, including CNN, Wired and the LA Times on its old homepage. Thanksgiving week will be the biggest test of the parking pages this year.

Demand and traffic: Ahrefs, US, subdomains, 13 Oct 2026, modeled estimates. Parking: the 68 parking searches in SFO's top 400 keywords brought 65,568 clicks a month in Oct 2025 and 40,662 in Oct 2026 (−38%), with SFO #1 on nearly all of them; 79,620 parking searches a month in total (top 137). Price and off-airport searches: ~8,000 a month (cheap, near, promo code, shuttle, park-and-fly, off-airport brands), ~5,900 excluding off-airport brand names; Ahrefs CPC $1.20–1.70. Searches with an AI Overview lost 27% of their clicks to flysfo.com, searches without one 5%. Peers, Oct 2025 to Oct 2026: LAX −41%, Denver −53%, Oakland −34%, San Jose −34%, SFO −46%. Paid: ~46,101 paid visits and ~$45,993 a month in Oct 2026, almost all to parking.flysfo.com (Ahrefs estimate; SFO's paid search has run in bursts). Rates: SFO's drive-up daily maximums ($27 long-term, $37 international, $41 domestic) as its pages show them in Google, and the $18 a day online rate in its travel tips (13 Oct 2026); Google's AI answers quote off-site lots at $5.50–15 a day. CTR curve (ROAST working curve): #1 28%, #2 15%, #3 11%, #6 5%, with a 30% AI Overview haircut. Ads are capped at ~15% of the price searches' clicks (~$1,250 a month) until Keyword Planner volumes arrive. GWI Travel (Q1 & Q3 2026): 51% of US vacation flyers plan trips with search engines and 18% with AI tools like ChatGPT; airport location (50%) and quick check-in (40%) matter more than parking cost (27%) when they choose an airport.
Formula: won-back clicks × visit-to-stay × share new to SFO + price-search visits × visit-to-stay = organic stays; re-aimed budget ÷ CPC × click-to-stay = ad stays; (organic + ad stays) × 12 × average stay = new parking revenue a year. Revenue per $1 counts only the re-aimed ads. The holdout share × SFO's current parking ad spend = budget freed; passenger-info clicks × $0.85 (Ahrefs traffic value per visit) = what those clicks would cost to buy. Neither is added to the revenue. Revenue is parking revenue SFO collects, before operating costs. Every revenue figure uses placeholder rates until SFO shares its own.
